Are peptides necessary for progress?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. A guy at my gym swears that peptides are the missing piece if you really want to break through plateaus. He told me he’d been training for years, eating clean, sleeping properly, but only saw “real” changes after adding peptides. That got into my head a bit. I’ve been consistent with my diet and workouts for over a year now, and yes, I’ve made progress, but it’s slower than I expected. I’m not looking to rush things recklessly, just wondering — are peptides actually necessary for noticeable progress, or are they more of an advanced tool for competitors?
