I’m looking into buying a small apartment in Spain this year, maybe somewhere around Murcia or Valencia. I’ve already seen a few great options online, but the part that confuses me is all the taxes and extra costs. Some agents mention VAT, others talk about transfer tax, notary fees, registration… it’s a bit overwhelming. I’m trying to figure out how much extra I’ll need to budget beyond the purchase price. Yeah, I went through it last summer when I bought my flat in Alicante. The taxes and fees added up to around 10–13% of the property price in my case. It depends on whether you buy new or resale. New builds usually come with VAT, while resales have transfer tax. There are also smaller fees for notary and land registry.
