3. Sunday Schedule:

Sunday, January 18th
7:00 - 4:00 Initial Competition Round
4:30 - 4:45 Meeting on the main field to announce the Field Goal, Punting, and Snapping Finalists
5:00 - 6:00 Competition Finals Round. 20 Kickers to advance based on FG score. 8 Punters to advance based on our evaluations

Sunday Competition Format:
FG Testing: Seniors (Class of 2009) and JC kickers must kick off the ground - no tees of any kind will be allowed. All others will have the option of either using a tee or not. My advice is to do whatever makes you look best. If you can kick off the ground at a high level - that can be an advantage, if not, kicking off a tee will not hurt you.

Each Kicker will be given 8 FG attempts with snap and hold. 2 each from 35, 40, 45, and 50 yards. The kicks will be taken from the uprights (not the extreme hash and not the dead center). The uprights are college width. There will also be a set of arena sized uprights set up within the college uprights at about 8-9 feet apart. You will be awarded 2 points for all kicks that make it inside the arena uprights, and 1 point for all other makes. So the maximum score is 16. All kickers will use the same footballs provided by Chris Sailer Kicking and kick in the same direction.

Kick-Off Testing: Seniors (Class of 2009) and JC kickers must use a 1" Kick-Off Tee - all others are allowed to use any legal kickoff tee of maximum 2 inches.

Each Kicker will be given 5 Kick-Offs. Each Kick-Off will be charted for hang time and distance. All kickers will use the same balls provided by Chris Sailer Kicking and kick in the same direction. The Combination of Hang Time and Distance, both weighted equally, will determine competition winners.

Punting Testing: Each Punter will be given 8 Punts (Taken from a snap). Each punt will be charted for hang time and distance. All punters will use the same footballs and punt in the same direction. The Combination of Hang Time and distance, both weighted equally, will determine competition winners.

** All participants will have the option of competing in 1, 2, or all 3 of the above competitions.

Finals Round:
Field Goal: The staff will invite back the top 20 scoring kickers from the morning testing to participate in the finals round. In case of a tie score, most field goals made in the morning round will be the first tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, a last man standing format field goal competition will determine who moves on to the Finals Round. This will take place at 4:45. The finals round will be the same format as the earlier testing. From the finals round the Event Champion will be crowned.

Kick-Off: There is no finals round for Kick-Offs. The morning round of testing will determine the Event Champion.

Punting: 8 Finalists will be chosen based on our staff's evaluation. The staff will make this call. You will be evaluated on 1. Overall Ability, 2. Potential, and 3. Performance. The finals round will feature head to head match-ups using seeding format. (Tournament Brackets). Best hang time and best distance after every punt is awarded one point. First to 10 Wins!

4. Reminders:
What To Bring:
1. Kicking Sticks (holding device)
2. Kicking Tees (field goal and kickoff)
3. 2-3 Footballs (To be used during warm up)
4. Folding Chairs if possible (there is no bleacher seating to view the Event)

Important Notes:
*It is your responsibility to arrive early each day to stretch and warm up on your own prior to your instructional group time on Saturday and your competition start time on Sunday. Your group #'s are listed above for Saturday. Your Competition Start Times for Sunday is an estimated time. You will receive your Competition Start Time at check-in on Saturday. We may be running a bit early or late. Show up early and make sure that you are on time.
*Please mark your name very clearly on all of your equipment.
*The weather is cold this time of year - dress accordingly.
*You are responsible for your own breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, etc. An assortment of drinks and snacks will be sold at UNLV by our staff.

See you all in a few weeks in Las Vegas!

Announced for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award

11/24/2008
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is pleased to announce Josh Arauco of Arkansas State University, Graham Gano of Florida State University and Louie Sakoda of the University of Utah are the finalists for the 2008 Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award presented by the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl.
These three place-kickers have compiled exceptional seasons in earning this honor.

Josh Arauco
Arkansas State
Graham Gano
Florida State University

Louie Sakoda
University of Utah
Arauco, a junior from Grand Prairie, Texas, is 15 for 16 (93.8) in field goals which leads the NCAA among those with more than 10 attempts.
He has taken Sun Belt Conference special teams player of the week honors three times this season and is the Red Wolves career leader in field goals with 42 which is second all time in the conference. He has not missed an extra point in 33 attempts this season.

Gano is hoping to follow in the footsteps of two time Seminole 'Groza winner (1997-1998) Sebastian Janikowski.
With three field goals in a 37-3 defeat of Maryland in ACC action, Gano has made 21of his 23 field goal attempts and leads the nation in kicks of 50 yards or more.
The senior from Pensacola, Florida has connected on 5 of his 7 tries from that distance which is the most of any kicker in Seminole football history.
He is tied for second in the nation in field goals made.

Sakoda connected on field goals of 37 and 35 yards last Saturday in the Utes 48-24 defeat of BYU to wrest the Mountain West Conference crown away from the Cougars.
The Utes are BCS bowl bound.
Sakoda is 21 of 23 in field goals made and along with his perfect 57 for 57 PAT mark, the senior from San Jose, CA leads the nation in kick scoring with 115 points.
The All-America is also a finalist for the Wuerffel trophy which honors the college player who best combines community service, academics and athletics.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award presented by the Fed Ex Orange bowl will be announced on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards aired on ESPN on Thursday December 11th.

The three finalists will be honored at the Lou Groza Awards Banquet at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Tuesday December 9th.

The award, is named for National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame kicker Lou "the Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.
Although an "All Pro" offensive lineman, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.

Lou Groza National Collegiate Place Kicker Award
"Stars of the Week"

11/17/2008
College football's top kicking award, the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award
sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission each week recognizes the three (3) top kickers from Division 1A schools who have made outstanding contributions during the past week. The three are selected from the 20 semi-finalists competing for the award.
Matt Bosher
University of Miami
Jose Martinez
UTEP
Leigh Tiffin
Alabama
University of Miami senior Matt Bosher's three field goals were the difference in the Hurricanes 16-14 defeat of Virginia Tech in Miami last Thursday night.
The Jupiter, Fla. native connected on kicks of 21, 31 and 23 yards.
With the win the 'Canes moved into first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.
Bosher won the Lou Groza High School kicker of the year award in 2004 and 2005.

UTEP senior and 2007 Lou Groza Award semi finalist Jose Martinez is recognized as a "star of the week" for the third time this season after a exceptional 5 field goal performance in the Miners 36-10 defeat of SMU last Saturday.

The San Jose, Ca. native tied a school record with his five field goals in the game and his 20 made field goals is second in the nation one behind fellow semi-finalist Ryan Harrison of Air Force.

University of Alabama junior Leigh Tiffin helped the 'Tide hold on to their narrow lead over similarly undefeated Texas Tech in the BCS standings last Saturday by kicking field goals of 35,34 and 36 yards in their 32-7 defeat of Mississippi State.
Tiffin's three straight field goals snapped a three miss streak since he was named a 'Groza semi-finalist. Alabama has tied the school record with 11 regular-season wins. The 2008 Crimson Tide team is the seventh team in school history to win 11 regular-season games hoping to make its way to the BCS Championship Game.
